Start at the EKU Libraries homepage and enter a few keywords into the search screen in the middle of the page.  Less is more when it comes to searching for books. Try entering no more than three keywords; just one or two keywords is recommended.

Login using your EKU username and password. This is the same information you use to access your Blackboard and EKU email accounts.

Next, depending on your search results, you may need to narrow your search to just books. In the menu on the left side of the screen, find the format menu and click on book

Those are the basic steps needed to find a book!

The next part of this FAQ will go into detail on the types of books you might find in your search and how to get them. There are three different types of books you may work with: print books we have, eBooks we have, and books that we do not currently have.

Print Books Owned by EKU Libraries

Here is an example of a print book that EKU Libraries owns.  Note the Held by: EKU Libraries. You'll also notice the Available symbol with a location and call number. These are all indicators that this is a physical book that EKU Libraries owns.

To get this book you can visit the library and locate the book on the shelf independently. You also have the option to click on the Request Item through Library Express button to have the book pulled and held for you at the library help desk. Please allow a day or two for a physical book currently held and available at the library to be ready if you choose the Library Express pull and hold option.

Tip! Regional campus and online students can have physical books delivered to their regional campus or home (online students only). Simply request the book using the Request Item through Library Express button. Please allow up to 2 weeks for the delivery of physical books from EKU Libraries if you are a regional campus or online only student.

eBooks Owned by EKU Libraries

Here is an example of an eBook that EKU Libraries owns.  Note the Held by: EKU Libraries. You'll also notice the blue view eBook button. These are all indicators that this is an eBook that EKU Libraries does own.

Books Not Currently Owned by EKU Libraries

The third type of book you may find in the library search are books not currently owned by EKU Libraries. Below are two examples of books that EKU Libraries does not have. (This is sometimes also referred to a book not held by the library.)

Tip! Please allow 2-4 weeks for the arrival of a book not currently owned by EKU Libraries. Sometimes we might borrow it from another library for your use. Sometimes we might buy it. And you just might hear from the Library Express office if they have any questions.
